Ticer and McCollom win singles titles
June 2008 -- Avery Ticer of Amarillo, Texas, captured the men's open title at the $5,000 United States Professional Tennis Association Indoor Championships held April 25-27, at the University of Minnesota Baseline Tennis Center in Minneapolis. Ticer defeated John Schollmeier of Falcon Heights, Minn., 6-3, 6-2, for the championship. Marina McCollom of West Des Moines, Iowa, won the women's open title by defeating Therina Steenkamp of Ponchatoula, La., 6-4, 6-4. The tournament also included events in the following categories: men's open doubles competition, men's 45 singles and doubles, and mixed open doubles categories. The competition featured many of the top men and women tennis-teaching professionals in the country.
