Texas hosts events at Men’s Clay Court Championhip
June 2008 -- USPTA’s Texas Division was very involved in promoting and hosting events for local teaching pros and players during the recent U.S. Men’s Clay Court Championships.
The division started the week off with a specialty course by Brett Hobden and offering participants lunch and tickets to the matches at River Oaks following their course. Texas also hosted other activities during the tournament week, including:
- USPTA Ladies’ Day at River Oaks, which included a clinic by Wayne Bryan.
- A CMAA cocktail reception that was hosted by USPTA President Harry Gilbert, who recognized the River Oaks manager and Joe Snailum, Texas Division president. About 40 managers attended, along with about 15 local Houston pros.
- Giveaways – USPTA Texas members handed out 144 cans of Pro Penn balls to the first 144 people through the gate prior to one evening’s matches. Jack Foster of Sugar Land and Sam Chadwell of Houston did the honors.
- Junior clinic for Houston area players by Wayne Bryan.
- Hosted USPTA Executive Committee at the tournament’s hospitality tent.
