Baseline game 21 (deep)
prepared by USPTA

Type: Singles Category: Groundstrokes

Levels: Intermediate/adv. Time/players: 15 minutes/1-4

Description and goals:

Develops consistent and deep groundstrokes. Players should work on movement and net clearance for depth.

Organization:

Player A starts the rally with a feed that must be past the service line and in the middle of the court. Players A and B exchange groundstrokes that must land beyond the service line. Whoever loses the point (i.e., hits the ball inside the service boxes, in the net or out), is replaced by another player, who plays the next point against the winner. Whoever reaches 21 points first is the winner (must win by at least 2 points). Use ping-pong serving to rotate the feeds.

Variations: Do it as a doubles game. Play the ball anywhere in the court. Play to 11 to keep the game moving.

Key points:

Focus on consistency, height over the net and the use of topspin to keep the ball deep.
